Ramsey Nasr voted in as new poet laureate

Ramsey Nasr became the new poet laureate on Wednesday evening following a public vote during a live tv show.

He was one of five finalists nominated for the post by a jury of literary specialists.
Nasr, the 35-year-old son of a Dutch mother and a Palestinian father, was handed a cheque for €5,000 and the poet laureate desk sign by previous incumbent Driek van Wissen.
Nasr, born in Rotterdam, was previously Antwerp’s city poet.
