Practical driving test for mopeds from 2010
Tuesday 20 January 2009
A new practical driving test for mopeds is to be introduced in January next year and is expected to cost at least €390 for four lessons and a 45 minute exam, transport minister Camiel Eurlings told MPs on Monday.
At the moment moped drivers only need to take a theory test.
The driving test is needed because of the high number of accidents involving mopeds, the minister said.
Research shows that the number of deaths involving mopeds will be reduced by almost 10% if riders take a practical exam before being given a licence, says the ministry’s website.
In 2007 some 77 moped riders died as a result of accidents and 2,900 were taken to hospital.
