Nuon has short list for new shareholder
Wednesday 14 January 2009
Dutch energy utility Nuon announced on Tuesday that it has invited foreign peer companies to bid for a minority interest in the firm, reports news agency AFM.
Nuon says it has drawn up a short list of prospects and hopes to make its decision within a 'relatively short period'.
The move follows the announcement on Monday of the takeover of the Netherlands' biggest energy utility Essent by the German power giant RWE. The Essent takeover is the subject of an emergency parliamentary debate on Wednesday evening.
Nuon wants to sell less than 50% of its commercial activities, says AFM. It does however expect this to gradually grow into a majority interest.
Nuon shares are currently owned by a number of provinces. Gelderland is the biggest, with 44.4%.
