Gaza: aid minister condemns relief stopFriday 09 January 2009 The decision by the United Nations relief organisation Unrwa to suspend humanitarian aid to Gaza because of the Israeli attacks on its institutions and staff is ‘extremely serious’, news agency ANP reports aid minister Bert Koenders as saying. ANP says Koenders has told the Israeli ambassador in The Hague that the Netherlands considers it unacceptable that Unrwa has stopped its operations because of Israel’s actions. The UN agency suspended its Gaza relief operations after Israeli bullets killed a driver in a food convoy during Israel’s stated three hour lull in the fighting. ‘This is heartbreaking… a very, very difficult decision for us to take,’ UNRWA director of operations in Gaza John Ging told a news conference at UN Headquarters in New York by video link. The Netherlands donated €23m to Unrwa last year, of which €8m was emergency aid, says ANP. © DutchNews.nl Get the DutchNews.nl newsletter in your mailbox: Click here to subscribe
There's a huge difference between indiscriminately killing people while defending a country and murder. Israel doesn't look to kill. Maybe, just maybe, you'd see much less Palestinians being killed if they weren't used a human shields. Would you mind taking a minute to look at the video on you tube where a Hammas leader makes that point very clear by praising civilians by acting as human shields. The video is called....hammas...we desire death as you desire life. Hmmm...interesting title. Hammas doesn't value human life the way normal people do. israel hasn't sunk to any lows. Sorry man. It's called defending your country from terrorism. And teh way Israel treats the palestinians is not much better than the nazis treating the jews!?!? What a joke...its very sad actually. the Palestinians are responsible for themselves. israel left gaza. Not only did they leave, but they kept greenhouses and building for them to use to build up their own economy...and what did the palestinians do??? They destroyed them! How foolish! Many Gazans wish Israel did have control over gaza because they had jobs. Hammas couldn't care less for its own citizens. Apparently life on earth is about violence and submission...and its worth it for them to have their 72 virgins. takes 2 parties for peace...Israel has been willing for years and years. It's the palestinians who don't want it. By Davis Brock | January 12, 2009 2:31 PM Okay, I have to react to Davis Brock's comment. First of all, Israel already was indifferent to the fate of the Palistinians years before Hamas entered the scene. And as for peace; yes, Israel keeps saying they want peace. But reality speaks otherwise. Prime minister Rabin was not killed by a Palistinian, by by an extremist Israeli settler who was against any form of peace with the Palistinians. And yes, Hamas does not value human life. But neiter does the Israeli army. They know Hamas uses civilians as shields. But the army has no trouble killing those civilians just the same. They should not put the blame on others all the time. They should take responsibility for their own actions. Israel always says they are just defending themselves. But their violence is much worth than that of any Palistinian group they're fighting. Words are cheap. But their actions speak louder than any words. When you consider what happened to the Jewish people during WWII, it's especially outrageous to what lows Israel has sunk, over 60 years later. They say they are defending themselves, yet for every Israeli killed, they kill at least 4 palistinians. The way the Israelis treat the Palistinians is not much better than the Nazis treated the Jews. When will America stop backing them up with such rediculous amounts of money each year?
