The Netherlands tops the list when it comes to international development aid, according to a report by the American think-tank Center for Global Development which was presented in The Hague on Monday.

The Washington think-tank not only takes the aid budget into consideration, says news agency ANP, but also looks at trade, investment, environment, technology and immigration.
It is the fourth year the Netherlands has topped the list. It is followed by Sweden, Norway and Denmark. South Korea knocked Japan off bottom place in rankings, which cover the 22 richest countries.
It is not all good news though, says ANP. The country is criticised for the high cost of education for foreign students, not taking enough immigrants from developing countries, agricultural subsidies and import tariffs, and high production of CO2.
