Credit crisis fails to dampen firework sales

The firework sector expects to beat last year’s €60m sales for this year’s New Year festivities, reports news agency ANP.

This year, sales are expected to top €65m, traders said. Official sales begin on Monday morning.
Under Dutch law, fireworks may only be sold to the public from licenced locations on a couple of days prior to December 31. Buyers must be at least 16 years old and fireworks can only be discharged from 10am on December 31 to 2am on January 1.
Last year, 1,100 people had to be treated for firework-related injuries.
