Holland wants more openness on tax

Dutch tax minister Jan Kees de Jager wants Belgium, Luxembourg and Austria to give more information to tax evasion investigators, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.

The three countries have an exemption to the European Union’s 2005 directive which requires member states to share tax information.

The Dutch also support Germany and France in efforts to tighten up the terms of a tax information treaty with Lichtenstein.

‘The treaty will not lead to full exchange of information and there are question marks over its effectiveness,’ De Jager said at a meeting in Brussels.

However, he pointed out that the treaty with Lichtenstein does go further than the current agreement with Belgium, Luxembourg and Austria.

If a non-EU member (Lichtenstein) is being required to share information, all EU members should do the same, De Jager was reported as saying.
