RWE may invest €6bn in wind power

German energy giant RWE wants to invest €6bn in five major off shore wind parks in the Netherlands in the period up to 2020, reports Tuesday’s Financieele Dagblad.

The aim is to build wind turbines 75 kms from the coast at IJmuiden and Groningen to supply green power to around 2.5 million households.
However whether the wind parks will actually materialise is unclear, says the paper.
It says that RWE is unhappy with the confusion around an extra subsidy for long distance off-shore wind parks and like other investors is also waiting for the government to announce what the subsidy for offshore wind power subsidies will be.
