Big cities want €6.7 bn for urban renewal

Tuesday 21 October 2008

Holland's four biggest cities say they need €6.7 bn funding to keep their urban renewal programmes on track, several newspapers report on Tuesday.

Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht said they will not be able to meet their targets of building 150,000 new homes and renovating 102,000 existing houses over the next 10 years without the extra cash.

The renewal plan is part of a wider scheme involving 31 cities. The four major cities pointed out that the overall budget for this scheme is in danger of being reduced from €900m to €370m in 2010.
