PM supports ethnic registration (update)

Prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende supports the idea of registering the ethnic background of criminals, reports the Trouw website on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier Labour members of the senate dismissed the suggestion by the home affairs minister that police and justice officials should register the ethnic background of criminals, reports the the paper.
Home affairs minister Guusje ter Horst said this week that a ‘neutral analysis’ of ethnic origins could help fight discrimination.

I don't know how they could ever envorce this. Why would anyone volunteer the information, and how would they prove what was said. For example, everyone could say they were African descent, which is where the current science has the origin of man, and it would be true, and of no value. There is not bloodtest for ethnicity. What's the point anyway? Just to stigmitise people even more than they already are and pay for more useless studies that accomplish nothing. Until racism and xenophobia are addressed, the problem won't go away.
