Foreign workers fall prey to illegal agencies

More than half of the people coming to the Netherlands to work still fall prey to illegal employment agencies according to the union research foundation SNCU.

Some 115,000 people, mostly from Poland, worked through illegal agencies last year, the SNCU says. In 2006, the figure was 80,000.
Illegal agencies often charge workers for accommodation, pay them less than official rates and do not pass on tax and premium contributions to the authorities.
