Amsterdam council is to get a €14m refund on value added tax (btw) paid on goods and services used in the building of the north-south metro line, reports ANP news agency on Friday.

The news comes a day after four buildings on the Vijzelgracht had to be evacuated due to excavation work on the underground line.
Building of the station at Vijzelgracht has been stopped twice this year. In June cracks in a supporting wall caused nearby houses to subside and work was brought to a halt.
Construction was resumed on Tuesday but stopped again a day later when more buildings, including houses dating from 1670 and French cultural centre Maison Descartes, were in danger of collapse.
‘We need a time out…We realise this does nothing for the credibility of this project,’ Amsterdam mayor Job Cohen is quoted as saying in the Volkskrant.
Evacuees will not be able to return to their homes for many months, the paper says.
