Save gas money for future says central bank

The government should put the extra cash it earns from natural gas sales into a special fund to serve future generations, the Dutch central bank said on Tuesday.

At the moment the money is used to pad out ministers’ spending plans and pay for major infrastructure projects.
The amount earned from the gas fields depends on oil prices but will reach €186bn over the next 40 years, central bank economists say.
