Supermarkets to promote cashless shopping

Supermarket sector organisation CBL and the direct debit card company Currence are launching a campaign to encourage the use of direct debit (pin) cards when shopping.

Supermarkets hope a shift will lead to a reduction in armed robberies. There have been 78 so far this year. ‘We’d rather have no cash in the shop at all,’ CBL chairman Klaas van den Doel told news agency ANP.
