Health insurers tougher on new clients
Friday 20 June 2008
People with chronic health problems are finding it increasingly hard to switch health insurers, according to research by patients' lobby group NPCF.
This year, eight of the 30 companies offering health insurance in the Netherlands want new customers to fill in a declaration form about their health. In 2007, only four insurance companies asked about policyholders' health records.
In addition, people with health problems are being asked to pay higher premiums for extra cover or are excluded from some provisions, the NPCF says.

I pay €123 a month and get far less in return as they prefer to first not pay, then talk about their refusal to pay, then offer some hope that maybe they will look at it again and pay, but then after weeks they decide to Not Pay! Nearly every patient I know is having problems with getting prescribed treatments and medicines paid for by many of the insurance companies. A few I know are very happy with their health insurer and it's always just one name that I keep hearing - and they do require a declaration of health form be filled-in before accepting clients.
