Dutch thrash Italy 3-0 in Euro 2008 footballMonday 09 June 2008 The Dutch national football team beat world champions Italy in an unexpected but convincing 3-0 victory in their first game of Euro 2008 on Monday night. The Dutch team oozed confidence and dominated most of the game in Bern, Switzerland. The win gives the Netherlands control of the so-called Group of Death. The other two teams in the group – France and Romania – drew 0-0. The Netherlands plays France on Friday. The Netherlands was 2-0 at half time after goals from Ruud van Nistelrooij and Wesley Sneider. Giovanni van Bronckhorst made it 3-0 after the break. It was great!!! Italy showed their true colors, real losers! Now that Italy can't get away with cheating like they did in the world championship. Holland has always played honest, true sportsmanship and the best players in Europe! Good game Holland! By sandra | June 10, 2008 5:25 AM oh my god, it was the best night in my life, go go go Holland you are the world championship your the legend your the victory... By Alex brayt | June 10, 2008 6:41 AM Michel, if you noticed, the italian defender didnt step out, he was already out because of the colission. The rule is to make sure people dont step out to force offside. Not the defender's intention as he was already out (didnt step out) and was even down on the grass....maybe someone else should do homework... By Stefanos | June 10, 2008 7:33 AM It truely was a stunning game to watch. I was on the edge of my seat in the second half, as Italy turned up the pressure but Holland reacted perfectly and barely wasted an opportunity. Italy played very well, but Holland outclassed them at every turn. Keep it up guys :) and Michel, the sports media examine each goal in every important game, don't take it as anti-Dutch sentiment. Criticising the referee's decisions is the UK's 2nd national sport ;) By Sharon | June 10, 2008 8:16 AM Congratulations to the Elftal from Germany! I think millions of germans were celebrating the dutch victory like I did. It was a great game, a declassing of the italians by a brillant oranje team. No points by cheating for italy this time. Van Nistelrooy showed how a real sportsman plays fair and didn't go down after Buffon hit him. Well deserved...let's meet in the final :-) By Axel | June 10, 2008 9:24 AM @Stefanos | June 10, 2008 7:33 AM By Michael | June 10, 2008 9:30 AM A lot of thanks to Marco van Basten. Dont forget him.I was so happy that they give them lesson. Viva Van Basten and hope they do it again against France 3-0 or more and I am sure Holland will do it gaisnt France. By AT | June 10, 2008 9:58 AM good to see a defensive unit cop a hiding from an attacking team!!! good stuff.from downunder!!!!! By peter | June 10, 2008 11:28 AM What a fantastic game - I'm not a huge fan of football, but I love watching the Euro tournament. The Dutch players are real gentlemen on the field compared to the other football holligans By Marlene | June 10, 2008 11:38 AM Thank You By Jaber | June 10, 2008 12:20 PM i am very pleased and happy all night long because iam one of the dutch team fan By yassin-obama | June 10, 2008 12:51 PM beautiful people: two or three, who cares? the dutch are marching, gloriously, lets hope this was not just one victorious battle! ta ta ta ta ta ta! aanvalluh...! By bjorn blonk | June 10, 2008 1:52 PM First goal was probably off side, but dutch victory FULLY deserved. By Massimiliano | June 10, 2008 4:12 PM With compliments , but it is a long way. By Marco of Rome | June 10, 2008 5:25 PM May the Orange flying dutchman live foreverrrrrr! I'm not dutch but Holland has been my favorite football team since I was 15. Yesterday was the day I achieved Nirvana. And the best part was not just seeing my team win but also seeing the team i hate the most loose and demoralized and looked like an injured animal licking its wounds. Long live Van Basten. Long live the Brazillians of Europe! By Sammy Leo | June 10, 2008 6:06 PM ok ok ok....Real news here...Did anyone notice that before the game even started that the flag used to represent the Netherlands was a Luxembourgish flag!!!! The blue was light blue not cobalt blue... NIce going....Maybe that was the good luck needed. From now on we will use the flag of Luxembourg before every game in Euro 2008... By DR | June 10, 2008 6:55 PM Congratulations to the dutch team, what a great victory, it about time someone put the italian team in its true place. hope you keep going forward, best wish from a scottish australian By marc | June 11, 2008 5:59 AM Well, after 30 years we really deserve it!but to be honest I don't think Italy had the best team that night and after that night they will be stronger (I lived in Milan x 3 years so believe me) I see Holland first on the group and Italy second, then the experience is vital, but Germany? come on, that match against Poland..come one..they have no team to win nothing, my favorites, still being Portugal,Italy and now my Orange!!! By Mark | June 11, 2008 7:58 AM The basten orange deserve a win coz they play their hearts. The spirit of togetherness and confidence.I remain that the victory will come holland. I am pleased about the way the Dutch team played against Italy. The english newspapers en tv are complaining about the first goal, because they think that it is off side. The rules are that when a player is stepping out of the game or pushed by the goaltender in this occasion then it can't be off side. Do your home work and look good at the rules.
