Cheaper births for Rotterdammers
Wednesday 18 June 2008
Rotterdammers on a minimum income will no longer have to pay nearly €300 towards the cost of having a baby in hospital now the council has signed an agreement with health insurer Zilveren Kruis Achmea.
The council hopes the deal will reduce the city’s high infant death rate (currently 13 per 1,000 live births). At the moment, 70% of women living in poorer neighbourhoods have just five hours of maternity nurse help. The council recommends 49 hours.
