Cabaret artist smashes camera

Monday 02 June 2008

Cabaret artist Theo Maassen smashed a camera worth €15,000 during his performance at the opening of the Amsterdam Comedy Festival on Saturday.

Maassen had been told there would be no photography during his act, but the organisation had also given Spits photographer Ilvy Njiokiktjien permission to take photos.

After grabbing the camera from Njiokiktjien, Maassen asked the audience what he should do with it. The response was to smash it. The photographer has filed an official complaint.
