Pirates seize Dutch freighter
Tuesday 27 May 2008
Somali pirates have seized a Dutch ship operated by the Reider Shipping group in Winschoten, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.
There has been no contact with the Amiya Scan, which sails under the Panamanian flag, since May 19, the Telegraaf said. ‘Our first priority is the safety of the crew,’ the owners said in a statement on Monday. The ship has a crew of nine Russians and Filipinos.
The ship, which was carrying a drilling rig, was on its way from Mombasa to the Romanian port of Costanza.
