Water shortage in Groningen

Monday 10 March 2008

Tens of thousands of people in the city of Groningen and its surrounding towns were hit by water shortages on Monday morning because of problems with the water pressure system.

The local water board suspects a leak may be the cause of the problem. It is advising people to boil any water they manage to get out of a tap for two minutes.

An estimated 220.000 people were without water from Sunday night.

The city’s hospitals have an emergency water supply but the two outpatients clinics were closed, tv station NOS said.
