State to compensate DSM

The government is to pay chemicals company DSM almost €48m in compensation for the closure of its fertiliser factory in IJmuiden in 2010, news agency ANP reports on Tuesday.
The closure follows agreement on the ending of the controversial transport of ammonia on freight trains from DSM's Geleen plant to IJmuiden.
Some 120 jobs will go when the factory closes but there will be no compulsory redundancies, DSM said.
On average, 116 trains carrying ammonia make the journey to IJmuiden every year.
In 2006, the government reached a similar deal with Akzo Nobel to stop chlorine transports between Rotterdam and Delfzijl.
