Record visitors to emigration fair
Monday 10 March 2008
Some 12,000 people attended this weekend’s emigration fair in Nieuwegein, 3,000 more than in 2007, the organisers said on Sunday.
Canada, Sweden and Australia were the most popular destinations but the Dutch Antilles are also growing in popularity.
Some 80% of visitors said they would definitely emigrate.
Director Frans van Houten told ANP news agency the increase is the result of the commotion over the anti-Koran film due to be released by MP Geert Wilders. 'We saw the same explosive growth after the murders of Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh,' Van Houten he told ANP.
Last year some 126,000 people left the Netherlands.

And presumably twice as many non-Dutch citizens came in to milk the Dutch cow.
