Polarisation is essential: Labour leader

Calls for Labour (PvdA) politicians to be less polarising in the ongoing debate on integration are ‘unbelievable’ party leader Wouter Bos says in an interview with Saturday’s Volkskrant.

I would say stop that moaning about the tone of the debate,’ Bos, who is also finance minister in the current cabinet, said.
‘There is no emancipation without polarisation,’ he continued. ‘The emancipation of the worker, the woman and the homosexual were only achieved through conflict, through confrontation.’
For example, the debate about female circumcision would never have been on the political agenda without Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Bos said.
