Schiphol warns new tax will hit earnings

Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport expects earnings in 2008 to be below the €316m booked last year because of government plans to introduce a new tax on flying on July 1.

Schiphol director Gerlach Cerfontaine says passenger numbers at Schiphol, Rotterdam and Eindhoven airports will stagnate because of the eco tax (€11.25 to short haul and €45 to long-haul flights).
Last year the number of passengers using the three main Dutch airports rose 4% to 50.4 million.
