Councils face competition crackdown
Friday 08 February 2008
The economic affairs ministry wants to amend competition legislation to prevent local councils developing commercial activities which would have an unfair advantage over non-subsidised companies, ANP news agency reports on Friday.
Businesses have complained for some time that local authority-funded operations such as art galeries and swimming pools offering fitness facilities are taking their clients by offering services at below-cost prices.
The cabinet is to dicuss the proposal on Friday.
