Telecom watchdog to begin new KPN probe

Telecom sector watchdog Opta is to start a new investigation into suggestions that KPN has been giving unlawful discounts to large corporate clients, chairman Chris Fonteijn says in an interview with the Financieele Dagblad.

The investigation will focus on the long delays KPN gives business customers in paying bills running into millions of euros and the large discounts which some clients subsquently receive.
KPN’s competitors do not have big enough balance sheets to grant this service to their customers, Opta says.
KPN was fined several million euros at the end of last year for giving corporate clients discounts which had not been cleared by Opta, the paper says.
