Human trafficking suspects in court

Monday 28 January 2008

Twelve people arrested in connection with an international human trafficking investigation are appearing in court in Zwolle on Monday.

The 12 include two men said to be the ringleaders: 43-year-old SO from Amsterdam and 37-year-old GE from Sheffield. The court will decide on Wednesday if the suspects should be remanded in custody.

The public prosecution department says several dozen under-aged girls were victims of the gang. They were brought to the Netherlands from Nigeria to claim asylum and later were taken from refugee centres and forced into prostitution.

In total, over 50 people have been arrested in connection with the investigation worldwide.
