Van Gaal still has hopes of England

AZ Alkmaar football coach Louis van Gaal has repeated his ambition to manage the English national team, saying he still wants to take an international side to the World or European cup.

Van Gaal’s current contract includes a clause allowing him to leave Alkmaar in July 2009 if he is offered a job as national coach with Germany, Argentina, Spain, Holland or England.
‘I could get round that by sending an assistant coach ahead of me,’ he told news agency ANP.
‘But I don’t believe England is looking for an assistant first.’
England recently sacked its coach Steve McClaren after he failed to take the team to the 2008 European cup.
