Quarter of child porn cases not pursued

Dutch regional police forces did nothing to pursue 200 child pornography cases in 2006, a quarter of all cases reported to them.

It is not yet clear why so many cases were left untouched, justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin told parliament, nor how serious the cases were.
Hirsch Ballin said he would be taking the issue up with senior figures at the public prosecution service so that they can refer with police chiefs as to whether the right priorities were being pursued. These talks will determine whether new guidelines need to be issued, the minister said.
