De Ruyter letter complains of lack of beer

A letter written by the famous Dutch admiral Michiel de Ruyter on September 25, 1659 has been sold for €11,500 by the Haarlem auction house Bubb Kuyper, reports the NRC.


The letter describes De Ruyter’s concerns over the lack of beer, food and fire-wood on his ships during military battles off the Danish coast.
The letter was sold to an unnamed Dutch private collector.
