Museums face new Nazi art claim

Descendants of Jewish art collector Nathan Katz are demanding some 227 works of art back from Dutch museums.

Katz ‘sold’ the works to the Nazis in 1940 before escaping with his family to Switzerland. After the war, the paintings were recovered by the Dutch state.
Culture minister Ronald Plasterk has asked experts from the state’s art collection ICN for its advice.
Last year, some 202 paintings from the Goudstikker collection were returned to the collectors’ heirs after a long legal battle.
