Stop ABN Amro consortium, say provinces
Wednesday 22 August 2007
The provinces of Noord-Holland and Flevoland have urged finance minister Wouter Bos to block a takeover of ABN Amro by the consortium of three banks led by Royal Bank of Scotland.
The provinces say such a takeover would lead to too many redundancies and damage Amsterdam's reputation as a financial centre.
Bos has already said he has no objections to the rival offer by Britain’s Barclays bank.
