‘Fifth’ Heineken kidnapper arrested

Spanish police have arrested a man suspected of laundering part of the ransom paid for beer magnate Freddy Heineken who was kidnapped in 1983. Police think money was used by Rob G. to buy premises in the red light districts of Amsterdam and Alkmaar.

The equivalent of €16m was paid to free Heineken and his chauffeur Ab Doderer, much of which was found buried in the woods near Zeist shortly after his release.
A further €2.5m was hidden in woods in Paris and was later recovered by a friend of the kidnappers, Thomas van der Bijl. He told police two years ago that the money had been passed on to Rob G. Van der Bijl was shot dead in an Amsterdam café in 2006.
Willem Holleeder, currently facing blackmail charges, and Cor van Hout, shot dead in 2003, both served prison terms for the kidnapping. Two other men were also jailed.
