Dutch military intelligence service (MIVD) officers have been accused of using electric prods while interrogating Iraqi prisoners in 2003. TV programme Nova reported on Tuesday night that one of the detainees claimed electric shocks were used during interrogations.

The claim is one of many facts and accusations being looked at by a parliamentary commission into allegations that Dutch soldiers tortured prisoners.
The commission was set up after torture allegations surfaced in the Volkskrant last year. Its chairman, Koos van den Berg said he expects the report to be finished in late June, but declined to comment on the latest claims. Defence ministry officials also declined to comment.
Nova said prisoners were blindfolded, had water thrown on them to keep them awake and stopped from communicating with each other by loud noises. One later told British military officials an electric prod had been used on him. The Volkskrant reported on Wednesday morning that this had been confirmed by a military official.
