Ethnic minority managers still scarce

There is not a single manager with an ethnic minority background at two-thirds of Dutch companies, according to research by the Volkskrant and advertising agency GITP.


The survey concludes that firms still see obstacles in recruiting and keeping employees with a multicultural background. Around 20% see language as a problem and 17% believe this group will not fit in with their company culture.
Two-thirds of employers believe that the workfloor should reflect the ethnic diversity of society at large – which means one in six members of staff should be from an ethnic minority – but only one-fifth achieve this, the report says. And at 13% of companies and government institutions surveyed, there were no ethnic minority workers at all.
