Syrian refugees allowed to stay

A group of 181 Syrians are to be given Dutch residency permits in line with parliament’s wishes, said justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin on Tuesday. MPs fear the refugees could be in danger if they are sent back to Syria.

The justice minister said he disagrees with this argument but said the asylum seekers have lived in uncertainty for long enough.
A year ago it emerged that information about some of these asylum seekers had fallen into the hands of Syrian civil servants. MPs said this put them at risk if they were to return to Syria.
