There are 94,000 suicide attempts a year in the Netherlands, of which 1,600 succeed, according to research by the Trimbos institute. A further 410,000 people – out of a population of 16 million – are so depressed that they consider suicide, the institute says. Proper suicide prevention efforts could cut the number of attempts by 22% it adds.
