Unemployment falls to 5%

Unemployment in the Netherlands fell to 5% in the final quarter of 2006 – a 0.2 percentage point drop on the previous quarter – the national statistics office CBS said. In total, some 394,000 people were officially unemployed in the final quarter of the year.

The average unemployment rate over 2006 was 5.5%, compared with 6.5% in 2004 and 2005.
