Illegal download sites removed

Wednesday 03 January 2007

Some 115 Dutch websites which allowed people to illegally download music and films were removed from the internet last year, says anti-piracy foundation Stichting Brein.

Some 1.5 million people were registered users on the sites, the foundation said. Legal action was taken against several dozen sites resulting in fines of up to €110,000. The foundation says this year it will focus on foreign operators targeting the Dutch market.
