Faith in health service increases

Faith in the Dutch health service is increasing across the board, according to research being presented to the Clingendael Health Forum later today. The NIPO survey showed that 87% of the population is happy with healthcare, up 13% on a year ago. But 66% are still unhappy with the new insurance system, with only 7% saying they are now better off.

However, 68% of doctors polled said there had been no improvement in the quality of healthcare last year. They blamed a shortage of innovation and a lack of motivation on the part of the government.

Research by two academics from Tilburg also being presented today said that the government needed to set a clear health agenda. Talk of healthcare innovation was dominated by a lack of trust, guilt and abuse of power, the researchers said.

Unless health service workers, insurers and the heathcare industry were involved in formulating changes, there would be no innovation in healthcare, they warn.
