There will be lots of everything on April 30. Here’s a number of them:

  • Amsterdam is high on the royal list: In 2012 the queen made 24 official visits to the city closely followed by princess Máxima with 22 and the crown prince with 17.
  • 32,422 inhabitants of Amsterdam will be experiencing a royal investiture for the third time in their lifetime; 40 of them are over a 100 years old. For 131,000 Amsterdammers it will be the second time around.
  • Amsterdam used two kilometres of cloth for the festive banners. It needed another 2.5 kilometres of cloth to decorate the buildings.

  • 1097 Dutch and foreign journalists will be reporting on the day.There will be 677 foreign journalists from 68 countries. 33 Argentinean journalists have asked to be accredited.
  • Máxima will not be the only Argentinean present on April 30: Amsterdam is home to 363 Argentineans.
  • The big dance parties in Amsterdam can accommodate up to 84,900 party goers. The Museumplein has standing room for 42,00 people and can seat 3,530.
  • The council will be putting in place 10 kilometres of temporary fencing and barriers.
  • A ‘normal’ Queen’s day celebration brings out between 700,000 and 800,000 people in Amsterdam.
  • The hottest Queen’s day was in 1997 (26.9 degrees Celsius). The coldest was in 1970. It didn’t get any warmer than 8.6 degrees Celsius.
  • Total (estimated) cost of the investiture for the city of Amsterdam: €7m. The government bill will be €5m, of which €1m will go the capital to help pay for it all.
  • Number of alcoholic beverages supermarkets are allowed to sell to individual clients on the day: one
  • The number of festive helium balloons to be released into the air has been reduced from 150,000 to 0 (for environmental reasons).
  • The investiture in the Nieuwe kerk will be attended by 2,400 guests. 12 of the 142 MPs present (4 declined the invitation) will not pledge allegiance to the king.

  • Television coverage by public broadcaster NOS will cost €2m and involve the use of 500, staff, 160 cameras, 13 mobile satellite systems, one helicopter and one plane.
  • A 30-second television ad will cost €45.000 on the day.
  • The NS can transport over 35,000 people to and from Central Station every hour.
  • 98 security cameras will be monitoring the crowds along the route throught the centre of Amsterdam.
  • Number of police officers on call: 10,000. 15 first aid posts will be set up manned by 150 first aid workers.
  • There are six designated protest locations three of which are in the centre of Amsterdam.
  • 250,000 maps will be available to visitors.
