Four men in their 30s and 40s have been killed in a one-vehicle car crash in Friesland.

The car left the road near the town of Jirnsum at around 9.30pm, possibly hit a tree and ended up in a deep ditch. The four men, all of whom were local, died at the scene.

As yet, the police have said nothing about the likely cause of the accident but they have appealed for witnesses, including cyclists who may have been using the bike path at the time.
