Three people and a dog have been killed and three injured in an overnight collision on the A16, police said.

The motorway was closed in both directions for a time after the crash, but reopened at around 6am, the ANWB motoring organisation said. The injured were taken to hospital by air ambulance.

Police suspect the crash was down to what they call a ‘ghost driver’ – someone driving the wrong way up the motorway, but say they will have a better idea later on Monday morning.
