Logistics sector has highest level of work-related absences

Nearly 3% of people working in transport and logistics missed at least one day of work because of accidents or workplace incidents, according to latest figures by the statistics agency CBS.

Altogether 196,000 people were involved in an incident at work during 2021, more than half of whom had to take time off as a result.

Almost a fifth (19%) of work-related absences were attributed to psychological factors such as stress or bullying, while 15% were caused by slips or falls and 14% were the result of physical over-exertion such as heavy lifting.

Overall 1.3% of people aged between 15 and 75 missed work during 2021 because of an incident, ranging from 2.8% of in transport and logistics workers to 0.4% of IT specialists.

The number of incidents and absentee levels fell during the coronavirus pandemic, when work from home regulations were in force. In 2019 3.3% of people were involved in an incident at work, compared to 2.5% in 2020 and 2.6% in 2021.
