Two die in crash as the Netherlands wakes up to heavy fog

Two people were killed in a multiple car crash on the N305 in Flevoland in heavy fog on Tuesday morning as the KNMI weather bureau issued a code yellow weather warning for the whole country, except the Wadden Islands.

Visibility in the area around the time of the accident, at 6.30am, was less than 100 metres. The fog is expected to lift by the end of the morning, forecaster Weerplaza said.

The fog caused accidents on the A15 at Brielle in the direction of Europoort as well, and on the A50 at Ewijk in the direction of Oss. Traffic there is moving again but drivers will face delays, police said.

Eindhoven airport, which initially told travellers no planes would be leaving at all this morning, has since said conditions had improved and the normal schedule had been resumed. Travellers are advised to contact their airline or check the airport website.
