More than 1,000 police officers, defence staff and financial investigators are taking part in a series of raids across Brabant linked to suspected drug production.

Police said several people had been arrested, but released few details about the operation, which is likely to last all day. Officers from the tax office’s investigative unit FIOD are carrying out inquiries into alleged money laundering.

At least three caravan parks in Eindhoven and dozens of other locations around Brabant have been targeted, Omroep Brabant reported on Monday.

A woodland around Heezerweg in Eindhoven has been closed to the public on the orders of an investigating magistrate.

Police said they had found a ‘drugs lab under construction’ in Oeffelt, near the border with Limburg and less than 10km from Germany, which they were in the process of dismantling.

Omroep Brabant said a business premises on Hapseweg in Oeffelt was raided at 6am on Monday, but police would not confirm if it was connected to the drugs operation.

Further updates are expected later in the day.
