The mother of the baby who died at the Ter Apel refugee reception centre is demanding a copy of the autopsy report because she has doubts about the public prosecution’s conclusion that no criminal offence led to the death of the infant.

The woman was barred from getting a copy of the report but was allowed by the public prosecution department to ‘look at it’, a useless exercise as she does not understand Dutch and is not a doctor, her lawyer Richard Korver told broadcaster NOS.

‘The child was in the care of the state and it is crazy the public prosecutor is withholding the report,’  Korver said.

Korver said there are no concrete clues that point to an offence but the fact the prosecution department is not willing to hand over the report is grounds for ‘suspicion’.

‘I want to see for myself and consult with a pediatrician,’ he told the broadcaster.

The three-month-old baby died on August 24 in a sports hall that was serving as emergency accommodation for hundreds of refugees at the overcrowded reception centre.
