Dutch copyright campaign group Stichting Brein had 349 illegal websites and online services taken offline last year, according to the foundation’s annual report. Brein focuses in particular on illegal download and streaming services.

The organisation says it completed 368 investigations in 2021 and is still looking into a further 43 cases. More than 39 illegal streaming sites and 21 Facebook groups offering illegal downloads were among those removed from the internet.

The association also said it asked Google over 21 million times about search results linking to illegal content and 650,000 of those search results were also removed.

The agency also reached a settlement with 54 sites which were uploading illegal content.
