Dutch bike maker VanMoof has appointed former Booking.com chief executive Gillian Tans to the new role of president.

Tans, who was at Booking.com for 20 years, will ‘help realise the vision of making electric biking the default transport choice for moving around our cities worldwide,’ VanMoof said in a statement.

The company, founded in Amsterdam in 2009, is known for its sleek, high tech city bikes and e-bikes.

VanMoof founders Taco and Ties Carlier have been working closely alongside Tans since she first invested in the company several years ago, the company said. The brothers will remain joint chief executives, to focus on long term strategy.

The company expanded its brand store network to 20 cities last year and has service centres at 50 locations worldwide.
