Planning to get married on a Sunday in Delft? Then you’ve picked the most expensive place in the country to do so, according to website The Perfect Wedding.

The fees charged for a Sunday town hall wedding in the university city amount to €2,139, the website said.

Getting married during the week is cheaper, even though fees have gone up 10% since the coronavirus pandemic, the website said.

The most expensive ‘off peak’ wedding is in Utrecht, where a longer ceremony and speech by the civil servant will cost €829 Monday to Thursday.

The cheapest wedding can be had in Noord-Beveland in Zeeland, where the price is just €155. On average, expect to pay around €410 for a ceremony and speech.

However, most councils also set aside times when you can get married for free, or a token fee – usually early in the morning.

In the Netherlands church weddings have to be preceded by a registry office wedding by law, otherwise you are not legally married.
